Phonetic transcription is a foundational skill presented early in the undergraduate speech-pathology curriculum and serves as the basis for advanced course work in clinical diagnostic decision-making. Mastery requires regular practice and performance feedback. One factor that impedes the provision of more practice opportunities is the widely agreed upon problem of grading phonetic transcription assignments by hand. APTgt is a web-based learning system designed to promote a more effective and efficient approach to grading phonetics coursework.
